Homeowner Tries To Smoke Out Rat, Catches Shed On Fire In Somerset County: Police

Volunteer firefighters extinguished the fire on Wednesday night.

MANVILLE, NJ — A homeowner's efforts to get rid of a rat in their shed turned into an emergency situation on Wednesday night.

At 6:25 p.m., Manville Police and Fire were called to a home on Haran Avenue in the borough for a reported shed on fire.

Manville Police Lt. John Crater told Patch the homeowner was trying to smoke out a rat and the shed caught fire.

"The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the shed," according to Manville Fire Company #1.

Damage was reported to lawn equipment inside the shed, said Crater.

Fire companies, including Camplain FireCo, Manville Fire Company #3, and Manville Fire Department also came to help.
