Kids Get a Chance to Test Their Firefighter Skills

Donning junior-size gear, kids try their skills at Olympic feats.

Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. no. 2 hosted its annual Jr. Firefighter Olympics Saturday, giving little ones a chance to try out their firefighting skills.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Paterno said the test includes challenges simulating the tests used in contests for real firefighters—hose dragging, climbing, crawling and more.

Of course, the youngsters weren't carrying the full 60-pounds of gear but they were wearing special Jr. Firefighter outfits provided by the fire company.

As many as 70 kids participate in the event.
