Learn About RVCC Programs at Library Event

Phyllis Pitts, Admissions Advisor at Raritan Valley Community College, will host an Information Session at the Hillsborough Library that will cover the school's newest programs and more. 

The event, scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 1 will cover topics about the application and admission process; programs, majors and careers; transfer students—as well as paying for college.

The session will be held in the library's program room B, with no registration required.


Book Sales:
Did you know that the Friends of the Hillsborough Library have daily book sales?? DVDs, CDs and hardcover books are only $1. Paperbacks, records, children’s books and magazines are only 25 cents! VHS tapes are FREE! August Special: All Children’s Books 20 cents each!

2013 Summer Reading Clubs!
Readers of all ages will 'unearth a good book' this summer as the Hillsborough Public Library presents its 2013 Summer Reading Clubs! Registration is continuing throughout the summer! Our reading clubs include the “Read With Me” Club (up to entering kindergarten), the “Dig Into Reading” Kids Club (entering grades K-5), the “Beneath the Surface” Teen Club (entering grades 6-12), and the “Groundbreaking Reads” Adult Club (ages 18+). There will be a variety of fun and interesting programs, trivia questions, and raffles all summer long.

Adult Services Programs from July 29 through August 10:

Numerology – July 30 at 7 p.m.
SuZen RavenHeart will teach you simple ways to use numbers and how important they are even when looking for a new home. Numerology presents the whole picture, revealing all the diverse parts of your personality and how they come together to create the person you are.

Afternoon Movie: Admission – 1:30 p.m. Aug. 7.
Starring Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Lily Tomlin. Rated PG-13
Doo Wop Rock & Roll – 7 p.m. Aug. 8.
'Under the Streetlamp:  Tales from the Doo Wop Era' is the second part that follows last year's presentation tracing the early history of rock and roll music.  The lively presentation from Classic Urban Harmony will be supplemented with music and video presentations and spiced with personal anecdotes.  The Crests, Platters, Shep & the Limelites, and Hank Ballard are just few of the personalities that will be covered.

Help your preschool or kindergarten child get ready to read! Enjoy stories together and build language skills. No registration required! 
Game On! – August 5 at 2 p.m. for kids entering Grades K-2, and at 3:15 p.m. for kids entering Grades 3-5
Bring your game face for a variety of Wii games and board games!
Toddler Time for 2's and 3's: Up, Down & All Around – Ages 2-3 – August 6 at 10 a.m.
Introduce the pleasure of books to your child! Join us for stories, songs & more. No registration is required!
Rhyme Time for ages Newborn - 24 Months – August 6 at 10:30 a.m.
Build brainpower! Join us for 20 minutes of nursery rhyme fun!
Scavenger Hunt – Entering Grades K-5 only and caregivers – August 6 at 3 p.m.
Join us for a fun time where you'll work as a team to find hidden treasures in the library.
Story and Craft: Treasure Time! - Ages 2-6 – August 7 at 10 a.m. or  11 a.m.
Listen to a story and create a craft to take home!
Youth Stages presents Bugs & Insects & Arachnids..Oh My! - Ages 3-9 and Caregivers – August 7 at 7 p.m.
Classic bug songs & stories re-imagined! This PLAY-SHOP is a 'lecture' by Dr. Katy Did (or Dr. Alder Fly)! The good Doctor uses song and story in the attempt to alleviate fears and enliven the lecture! Forget bugs, beware of giggles!
Movin’ Munchkins – Ages 3-6 – August 8 at 10 a.m.
Join us for a creative movement program for the child and parent/caregiver! **Please note: An SCLS Release/Waiver must be filled out and signed by the parent or the child cannot participate in this program. Forms are available at the Children's Desk, or you can print one from our online calendar.
Mad Science presents…Digging for Dinos – Ages 3-5 – August 8 at 2 p.m.
Your kids will be little paleontologists in this exciting class! They will learn about when dinosaurs lived, what they ate, and how scientists know they existed. Your kids will participate in a dig for the 'fossil remains' of a mystery dinosaur, and they will even cast their own T-Rex tooth!
Mad Science presents…Earthworks – August 8 at 3 p.m. for kids entering Grades K-2 and at 4:15 p.m. for kids entering Grades 3-5
Take a voyage to the center of the Earth! We'll investigate the powerful process that shapes our planet and forms remarkable rocks, magnificent minerals, and glittering gems! Children will take home Ultraviolet Detectors which they build themselves!
Baby Songs - Newborn to 24 months – August 9 at 10 a.m.
Spend time making music with your little one! NOTE: Parents, in order to provide a safe environment for our youngest patrons, older siblings will not be allowed into this program.
Robodyssey - Entering Grades 6-12
Want to learn more about robots? Robodyssey Systems will teach you how to program a robot using real world programming skills in Microsoft Visual Basic. Put your new knowledge to the test using your robot in a final competition!
