Montgomery Cops Honored For Rescuing Dog From Frozen Pond

MONTGOMERY, NJ — Two Montgomery Township Police Officers were honored for rescuing a dog that fell into a frozen pond in January.

On May 17, David Watson, who operates the Whiskers Watson Animal Hero Awards Foundation, presented Sergeant John Colucci and Officer Sal Intili with the Whiskers Watson Animal Lifesaving Medal.

On Jan. 21 at 10:33 a.m., Montgomery Police, Montgomery Fire Company No. 2, and Montgomery EMS went to a pond behind Avalon Lakes Court for an animal rescue after a dog fell into the pond. Read More: Dog Falls Into Icy Pond, Rescued By Montgomery Police

The dog's owner told officers that the dog had somehow gotten out of the backyard.

"Officer Salvatore Intili donned a personal flotation device with a safety rope held by Sergeant John Colucci and walked out onto the frozen ice, where he was able to grab the dog’s harness and pull the dog from the water," said police.

With the help of other officers, the dog was taken to a local animal hospital for evaluation and is expected to fully recover.
