One Man Arrested For Attempted Murder, Another At Large In Somerset County

A 21-year-old Princeton man has been arrested for allegedly playing a role in the attempted murder of a man sitting in his vehicle.

A 21-year-old Princeton man has been arrested for allegedly playing a role in the attempted murder of a man sitting in his vehicle in Franklin Township on Saturday.

“At 7:09 p.m., Franklin Township Police received a report of shots being fired in the vicinity of Eugene Avenue,” according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. “Responding officers located a male victim who stated that he was shot at while he was sitting in his vehicle on Ambrose Street.” according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to authorities, Avery C. Gorman was allegedly driving a dark blue Honda Accord with tinted windows when he pulled up in front of the victims vehicle. Police say the front right passenger of the suspect vehicle, later identified as 21-year-old Devin Alexander, of the Somerset section of Franklin Township, pulled out a black handgun and discharged it towards the victim.

The gunshot shattered the glass in the victim’s vehicle but missing him.

Gorman was located just after 6:30 p.m. the next day while driving his 2014 Honda Accord on Stothoff Street. Police conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested Gorman without incident.

Gorman has been charged with:

  • Attempted Murder, 1st Degree

He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail set at $500,000 - cash only.

Alexander has been charged with:

  • Attempted Murder, 1st Degree
  • Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, 2nd Degree
  • Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, 2nd Degree

Law enforcement authorities are searching for Devin Alexander, detectives are urging Alexander to surrender to law enforcement authorities and are cautioning any individual that may come into contact with him to notify police immediately and do not try to apprehend him as he may be armed, according to authorities.

Crime Stoppers of Somerset County, Inc. is offering a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to the whereabouts and arrest of Devin Alexander.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano and Franklin Township Chief of Police Lawrence Roberts request that anyone with information pertaining to this shooting is asked to contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Squad at (908) 231-7100, the Franklin Township Police Department at (732) 873-5533.
