Residents Celebrate Spring in Annual 5K Race to Wellness

Hundreds of Hillsborough residents welcomed spring over the weekend at the 5K Race to Wellness.

Hundreds of Hillsborough residents participated in the township’s second annual 5K Race to Wellness over the weekend.

More than 300 people welcomed spring by participating in the 5K. The top finishers of the 5K, including Luke Prothero of Somerville and Heather Gracie of Peapack-Gladstone, were awarded prizes, according to Somerset County officials.

“Improving the quality of life of the people we serve is a priority for Somerset County,” Freeholder Deputy Director Patricia Walsh, Wellness Committee liaison, said in a release from Somerset County. “Somerset County has recently been ranked the second healthiest county in New Jersey. Because our goal is to be ranked Number One, we continue to support programs that promote health and wellness.”

The 5K was sponsored by the Somerset County Wellness Committee and EmPoWER Somerset. Proceeds from the event went to non-profit organizations around the county, including EmPoWER Somerset, Middle Earth, Somerset Home for Temporarily Displaced Children, Somerset County Tourism and Somerset County 4-H, county officials said.

According to Somerset County, the Somerset County Employee Wellness Committee is dedicated to improving and maintaining the general health and well-being of employees. The goal of the Wellness Committee is to promote greater health awareness by providing information, activities and services that are designed to support healthy life choices.
