Senior Center Gets Cafe Look in Make-Over
Township redecorates center to make space more inviting.
Hillsborough seniors celebrated on Friday the fifth anniversary of the municipal building's center for them, with a proclamation from the state and a new look for the center.
The 3,000 square foot space was repainted and decorated as a cafe, to create a more inviting appearance, with funds from Community Development block grants. A wall dividing the main room from a smaller room was opened up with large awninged windows, while the game room underwent a complete billiards room make-over.
"It looks like one of those coffee shops," resident George Schmidt said. "They did a great job on it."
Mayor Frank DelCore said the township plans to host various tournaments at the new center, including billiards, cards, shuffleboard and mah jongg tournaments.
"This room is for you, so we'll do anything we can to put activities together that you'll enjoy," he told the assembled group of several hundred seniors.
Sen. Christopher "Kip" Bateman also read a proclamation passed by the state Senate and Assembly that "honors and congratulates" the center on its fifth anniversary of serving the seniors and hosting events.
