State Champion Softball Team Recognized at Township Committee

Township proclamation notes HHS varsity softball team's 24-3 record.

The 2013 Hillsborough High School varsity softball team added some new pennants for the school's gym, including a Skyland Conference division title and Central Jersey Group IV sectional title.

In fact, when the dust settled on home plate, the team had assembled a perfect conference record, and a 24-3 record overall.

Noting the "hard work, dedication, and commitment" such achievements require, the Township Committee presented a proclamation to the team and its coaches for "the honor they have brought to themselves, their school and our community."

Mayor Frank DelCore presented the proclamation at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting to the team—or at least the members of the team returning for the next season, according to Head Coach Cheryl Iaione.

The team included Kelly Amen, Donna Conrad, Arielle Couso, Katie Faillace, Megan Gottschalk, Taryn Grober, Rachel Handel, Alexis Pezza, Cayleen Rizo, Jess Santelli, Alexis Schengrund, Jacki Schwankert, Alison Shimko, Josette Spencer, Kelly Wishard and Alyssa VanDerveer. Coaches included Brandon Wiater, Lilianna Torres and Tom Sharples assisting Iaione.
