Wet Night Not Enough to Spoil Duke Farms' Festival
After moving event to Saturday night, more than 100 still participate.

Turns out hot and muggy is perfect weather for lightning bugs, which worked well for Duke Farms' Firefly Festival.
Although having to reschedule the event from Friday to Saturday night diminished the turnout, more than 100 kids and parents participated in the educational and entertaining program.
Kids were challenged to collect a mark at each of 13 stations, each of which was hosted by a volunteer sharing information about lightning bugs or offering an opportunity to participate in a project.
Periodic rain made some challenges more difficult, but the dark Duke Farm meadows and fields glittered with lightning bugs enjoying the damp night.
Organizers hope to make the program an annual event—perhaps next year's weather will be more conducive to the humans than the fireflies.
