World War II Veteran To Serve as 2015 Grand Marshal

A Hillsborough resident and veteran of World War II will be leading Hillsborough's 2015 Memorial Day Commemoration.

A Hillsborough resident and veteran of World War II wll be leading Hillsborough’s 2015 Memorial Day Commemoration.

Leo Hornsby, who served as a radio engine specialist and aerial engineer for the United States Army, will serve as the grand marshal for the Township’s 2015 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony. In addition to being a World War II veteran, Hornsby served 10 years active duty.

“As the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II approaches, it is all the more fitting to have a WWII Veteran serve as the Grand Marshal for our program for 2015,” Deputy Mayor Greg Burchette said in a release from Hillsborough Township. “As always, we are honored to commemorate Memorial Day and have all the Hillsborough Veterans lead the parade.”

After returning home, Hornsby got married and had three children, and began working for Exxon Corporation, according to the Township. He retired from Exxon in 1982, after 26 years of service.

Hornsby will lead the parade that begins on the corner of Auten and Triangle roads at 10:30 a.m., the Township said. He will also be the featured speaker during the Garden of Honor Ceremony beginning at 11:15 a.m. at the Municipal Complex.

This year’s Hillsborough Memorial Day commemorative program begins with the ‘Salute to Veterans’ Breakfast, a rain or shine event, at the Municipal Building at 7:30 a.m., on May 23. The breakfast will be followed by the unveiling of the Veterans Way monument and the Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m.
