The first to announce her candidacy for mayor was Councilwoman Emily Jabbour, a well-known official who has been elected twice on a ticket with Bhalla.
Last week, in a bit of a surprise, Dini Ajmani, the former deputy assistant secretary of the U.S Treasury, said she's running.
Fisher And Russo
Unlike Jabbour, both Councilwoman Fisher and Councilman Russo have been critical of Bhalla's administration at times.
Fisher has represented the 2nd Ward, the northeast section of town, since 2016. She works in finance. She's known for keeping her constituents informed, including with a detailed newsletter. Her website is here.
Russo is a doctor of physical therapy. He has represented the 3rd Ward, the southeastern part of town, for more than 20 years. He's the son of late Mayor and Councilman Anthony Russo. His campaign website is here.
Council Seats Will Open
This Nov. 4, Hoboken residents will also be able to vote for up to three council members at large, representing the entire town. Often, mayoral candidates run with a ticket of three council hopefuls.
Hoboken mayor and council elections are non-partisan.
