HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken's Office of Emergency Management warned residents just before noon that they're responding to reports of falling rocks on a major thoroughfare along the waterfront.

They said residents should avoid the sidewalk on the west, from approximately Eighth to Ninth Street, as it will be temporarily closed.

"The Office of Emergency Management is investigating reports of falling rocks near the area of 9th Street & Sinatra Drive," the office said in a message.

The road runs along the edge of the mile-square city, just west of the Hudson River.

It's bounded on the west by Castle Point, a hill including serpentine rocks that are millions of years old. The Stevens Institute of Technology is at the top of the cliff.
