Cabbie Claims to be Assaulted After Disagreement About Fare

A cab driver from Queens claimed that he was assaulted in Hoboken early Sunday morning, after a customer refused to pay the agreed upon fare, police said.

A 30-year-old Connecticut woman had taken a taxi from 39th Street and 8th Avenue in New York, back to Hoboken around 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, police said. When she got in, she and the taxi driver—a 47-year-old Queens man—had agreed upon a $52 fare, police said. 

When they arrived at the destination on Fourth Street, the woman "grew angry and refused to pay the fare which they had negotiated," the police report stated.

The victim told police that the woman threw a $20 bill at the driver in the front seat, before getting out. The driver followed the woman to the entrance of the building to get his fare, police said.

When he got there, the woman allegedly shoved him down the stairs, pushing him with both of her hands. The cab driver suffered injuries—bruises and abrasions—to his head and knees, police said. 

The driver signed a complaint against the woman, who was in Hoboken as a visitor for a few days, police said.
