Hoboken Looks To Bring Park To Industrial Northwest
A ordinance is on the city council's agenda to spend at least $23 million on parkland.

On Wednesday night——the city council will cast its first vote to potentially buy six acres of land for a park in the Fifth and Third Wards, both on the northwest side of town.
One site on the agenda is the so-called . on Sixth and Jackson Streets. In a seperate vote, the city will vote on a property in the Southwestern part of town, which could be purchased with the help of eminent domain.
In an open letter to the people of Hoboken on Monday, Mayor Dawn Zimmer wrote that "the time has come for your elected officials to deliver on the open space promises we have all made at election time."

The city has a $20 million bond to spend on acquiring land as well as a . The $3 million from the county has to be used on the property in the Southwest, and expires by the end of the summer.
"We need to acquire property before the market makes it unaffordable or development makes it impossible," Zimmer wrote also. "The $23 million will likely not be sufficient to acquire all of these properties, but the authorization will enable the City to conduct serious negotiations for these properties."

Wednesday night's vote will be the first of two votes to try to acquire the land.
