City Submits New Plans for Sinatra Park

After a further collapse of the pier, a new plan had to be drafted.

The city's engineers have submitted their new plans for the reconstruction of the pier under Sinatra Park to the Department of Environmental Protection, city spokesman Juan Melli said.

The plans were submitted late last week.

"Preliminary plans were provided to the DEP," Melli wrote in an email. "We're currently on schedule for the revised project."

The reconstruction of the field—which will include construction of new piles, a new sea wall as well as a new deck—is estimated to be completed in August 2013 if the DEP and the Army Corps of Engineers grant the necessary permits, according to Michael Nannini, an engineer with Boswell Engineering.

After the construction, concrete and steel will be holding up the pier and no more wood will be used, the engineers said.

Melli said the he couldn't provide the predicted costs for the plan yet, but that it will cost more than the original plans.
