Council to Fill Open HHA Seat; Commissioner Says She'll 'Fight Tooth and Nail'

UPDATED 12:15 p.m.—The city council is planning to appoint a new commissioner to the Hoboken Housing Authority on Wednesday night. 

Fox Hills resident and former HHA commissioner  recused herself at the most recent board meeting, after not completing the required classes all commissioners have to do, said the newest HHA Commissioner, Councilman David Mello.

Camporeale, however, said she's not going anywhere. "I'm going to fight them tooth and nail," she said in a phone conversation on Wednesday afternoon.

 she has to finish two more, according to a letter from the Division of Local Affairs, which has been attached to this story. Board members have a year and a half to complete the classes. 

Camporeale said that she didn't finish the classes in time, because she is disabled. "I'm disabled," she said, "that's why I didn't finish the classes." Camporeale said she is signed up for the July session.

The council is planning to fill the seat on Wednesday night, Mello said. recently to fill Councilman Michael Russo's seat, whose term expired in early May. 

Mello said there were four applicants in May, former former , local bar owner Joe Branco and Jeremy DeLuca. 

It's still unclear which candidate will get the seat, Mello said. But he said that all interested candidates should reach out to him. 

HHA commissioners serve five year terms and Camporeale said she intends to serve her full five years, until May 2015.

"The City Council doesn't have the authority to remove me," she said.
