Downtown Taxi Stand To Be Moved By March 1
New spot will accomodate 25 cabs at a time
The downtown taxi stand by the terminal will be moved across the street by March 1, City spokesman Paul Drexel announced in a statement Friday afternoon.
A loading zone for shuttle buses will also be created on the north side of Hudson Place, east of River Street, something Hoboken's taxi drivers are not pleased about.
Last week, cab drivers and license holders expressed their discontent with the new location (the location is actually not new at all, the old taxi stand used to be there).

City Council unanimously approved the move of the stand during the last council meeting.
The stand is being moved in order to accommodate more taxi's at one time. The space that's currently being used to stage the city's 65 cabs, on Observer Highway, will no longer be available because a new flood pumping station is going to be built there. Construction on the pumping station is scheduled to start in a few weeks.

The drivers weren't happy about the loss of staging area, because they will have to spend more time driving around town looking for fare. Picking up customers in Hoboken is hard, they said.
Director of Transportation and Parking said that more taxi stands will be added to help the drivers. He said also that people should know that it's perfectly legal to hail a cab in the City of Hoboken, something he said not many people know.
