HOBOKEN, NJ — The deadline to file forms to run for Board of Education in November was this Monday.
In Hoboken, the annual election for three seats on the nine-member school board is non-partisan.

Controversies And Candidates
The Hoboken Board of Education oversees the school budget and five regular district schools: Hoboken High School, Hoboken Middle School, and three elementary schools.

They also partner with other organizations to run free public pre-K programs, and summer programs.
The town's three charter schools have separate school boards, although any resident of Hoboken can vote in the regular district election.

This year, the candidates for three open spots are:

- Incumbent Antonio Grana
- Elizabeth "Lizy" Velez
- Russ Koyfman
- Laura Block
- Tim Smith
- Patricia Walters

Voters can generally choose any candidates, regardless of whether they are on a slate together.
The November school elections will be held concurrent with the General Election on Nov. 4.
