Hoboken Charter School Finds New Home
Chairwoman of the Charter School's Board announces new location for the school.
Hoboken Charter School will house its Kindergarten through 8th grade classes to the Academy of the Sacred Heart building at 713 Washington St. starting September, the school's administration announced yesterday.
A two-year lease with an option to buy was signed April 9th with the property's owner, The Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth.
"We are very pleased that we were able to secure a site for the school," said Helen Cunning, president of the Hoboken Charter School's board. "We are one of New Jersey's oldest and most successful charter schools and have only modest renovation plans at this time," she added. The school has received numerous awards and honors for teaching excellence since its inception in 1997, including a National Charter School of the Year award.

The Hoboken Charter School, kindergarten to 12th grade, is currently housed in the Demarest School building at 4th and Garden Streets. Relocation became necessary when the Hoboken District Board of Education's facilities plan directed that students from the Thomas G. Connors School be transferred to Demarest while the Connors building begins a two-year renovation. The high school will remain at Demarest.
The Hoboken Charter School is well-known for incorporating a service-learning curriculum into a rigorous academic program, one that emphasizes personal growth and arts literacy. Last year, all of its seniors graduated and went to university or college.
