Reminder: Hoboken Fire Department, Mayor Zimmer to Lead Local Walk to End Alzheimer's on Aug. 28
Don't miss out on today's Walk to End Alzheimer's in Hoboken, organized by local fire fighter, Orlando Lanzo, in honor of his mother.

The Hoboken Fire Department will be wearing purple t-shirts during the month of September to support the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. The effort was the initiative of first-year Hoboken firefighter Orlando Lanzo, whose mother is living with the disease. Lanzo designed the shirts, which include the Walk logo and the Hoboken Fire Department logo. Shirts are also available for the public to purchase at select Hoboken storefronts.
Members of the fire department, along with Mayor Dawn Zimmer, will kick-off this effort at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 28 at Ladder Company 1 Engine Company 3, located at 1313 Washington Street. Lanzo and many of his fellow firefighters also will participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Liberty State Park on September 20. Hoboken Fire Chief Richard Blohm, Battalion Chief Luis Moyeno, Members of the Hoboken Fire Department and the Alzheimer’s Association Staff will be joining the Mayor at this event.
Orlando Lanzo’s mother is one of over 170,000 New Jersey residents living with Alzheimer’s disease, and Lanzo is one of over 400,000 caregivers in New Jersey. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research and is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide. Lanzo has been participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Liberty State Park since 2011, walking in honor of his mother.
