'Hoboken Hero' Honors Blimpie Birthplace
First sandwich shop opened 50 years ago by three friends in Italian neighborhood.

Blimpie continues its 50th birthday celebration with the roll out of the Hoboken Hero, a new sub sandwich which honors the company’s New Jersey birthplace.
The Hoboken Hero, inspired by the Italian heritage of the neighborhood where three friends opened the first store in 1964, is packed with pepperoni, salami, prosciuttini, and provolone. The sub is available in stores nationwide starting Tuesday through Oct. 5, according to a company release.
“We created the Hoboken Hero to give our fans a taste of the original Blimpie experience,” says Steve Evans, vice president of marketing at Blimpie.

Since opening half-a-century ago, Blimpie has added hundreds of stores nationwide, expanded internationally and offered subs and wraps made with a variety of ingredients. However, customers still crave the same Italian meats that originally made the brand famous, the release stated.
Blimpie is now based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
