Hoboken Man Charged After Car Chase Through City Streets

A dangerous car chase occurred on Sunday, ending with a vehicle abandoned with four flat tires, according to reports.

Hoboken police arrested city resident Alfredo Suarez on Sunday, after following him in a speeding vehicle through the streets of Hoboken, according to reports.

When police approached a double-parked car at Fifth and Jackson Streets around 3:20 a.m. on Sunday to ask it to turn the vehicle off, Suarez sped off with his lights off, according to police reports.

Officers then followed Suarez, 31, but couldn't keep up with Suarez, who was speeding—without lights—down Seventh Street, police said. Officers saw the vehicle nearly hit parked cars, according to reports.

Suarez then allegedly sped up, driving toward the cop car. Suarez maneuvered his vehicle onto the sidewalk to avoid hitting the police, according to reports. At this point, the chase became too dangerous to continue, according to police.

Later on, the vehicle was found—abandoned with four flat tires, about 40 feet from the road—on Bloomfield Street between 11th and 12th Streets, police said. Inside the car police found a nearly empty 200 ml bottle of Henessy, police said. Based on the car's registration, police went to Suarez's house, where his mother opened the door, according to reports.

Suarez was home—wearing a white v-neck and underwear—and was placed under arrest, police said. Once at police headquarters, Suarez became combative and started yelling at the officers, police said.

Suarez was charged with eluding a police vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
