Hoboken Police Arrest North Bergen Man After Hit and Run in Hoboken

A license plate fell of the fleeing car at the site of the accident.

Hoboken police arrested a North Bergen resident after allegedly hitting a 29-year-old Hoboken man with a jeep late Sunday night. 

Jorge Lopez, 49, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and leaving someone with injuries, according to the police report. 

Around 11:10 p.m., police arrived at the intersection of Sixth and Washington Streets on a report of a hit-and-run, police said. There, they found a 2001 Acura with New Jersey registration, with the 29-year-old Hobokenite sitting behind the wheel.

There was heavy damage to the back of the car, police said. 

The victim was taken to the Hoboken University Medical Center police said. An eye witness told police she saw a jeep drive throught he intersection, rear-end the Acura and push it through the intersection. After the cars collided, the jeep turned around and went west bound, police said.

At the intersection, police found a license plate of the jeep, according to the report. The plate belonged to Lopez, who was arrested by Hoboken police at his home, according to reports.
