Junior Emma Wehrhahn led the squad with consistency and grit, earning Second Team All-County honors. Wehrhahn placed 6th at the North Hudson Championships (22:28) and 15th at the Hudson County Championships (22:08), solidifying herself among the top runners in the county.

In a major milestone, the girls’ team successfully fielded a full varsity roster—five runners—for the first time since Cross Country was reinstated at Hoboken High School. Their depth and dedication propelled them to compete at Sectionals for the first time since 2022.

Boys Cross Country: Rising Talent Leads the Way

The boys’ team also delivered a banner season, led by impressive freshman talent and a renewed sense of competitive drive.

Freshman Luca Bettua made an immediate impact, finishing 1st at the North Hudson Championships (12:46) and 3rd at the Hudson County Championships (12:01) in the freshman division (2-mile).

Freshman Elias Gavin also shined, earning 3rd place at the North Hudson Championships (13:05) in the freshman division.

The boys, like the girls, fielded a full varsity roster for the first time since the program’s revival and returned to Sectionals for the first time since 2022.

Hoboken High School Principal Robin Piccapietra highlighted how the program’s growth reflects the school’s overall mission: “What this team accomplished goes far beyond times and placements. They rebuilt a program, supported one another, and represented our school with pride. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and the culture of excellence they continue to foster.”

“This was a milestone year for our Cross Country program. Fielding full varsity teams and competing at Sectionals again shows just how far these athletes have come. Coach Mendez and the runners have set a new standard, and the future of Redwing Cross Country is bright.”-said Jack Baker, Hoboken High School Athletic Director

The Hoboken Public School District congratulates all student-athletes and Coach Mendez on an inspiring and successful 2025 season. With a growing roster, rising young talent, and a renewed commitment to excellence, the Redwings are poised for continued success in the years ahead.
