Hoboken To Recreate First Baseball Game
The home of the first baseball game is hosting a recreation of the first game, played in 1846.
If you want to get a feel for what baseball was like about a century and a half ago, you'll have to be in Hoboken in Saturday.
The annual recreation of the first organized baseball game will take place at 1 p.m. on the Dobbelaar Baseball Field at Stevens Institute of Technology. The teams will follow 19th century rules -- and dress in 19th century uniforms -- as they go head to head.
The first organized baseball game using "modern" rules was played on Elysian Field in Hoboken on June 19, 1846. The New York Base Ball Club defeated the Knickerbockers 23-1.

The recreation — not to be confused with a reenactment, which would mean the game would need to have the same outcome as the one in 1846 — on the Saturday closest to the anniversary.
