
A Jersey City man was arrested on Sunday afternoon after a knife fight in the southwestern part of town, police said.
Luis Pineiro, 31, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly slashed a 26-year-old.
Pineiro was followed into the Hoboken Dollar & Variety store at Third and Jackson Streets, police said, by a group of men around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. Pineiro was in the back of the store when police went up to him, according to the report, and was bleeding from his right hand.

"They're trying to kill me," Pineiro told police about the group following him, according to the police report.
The group of men assaulted Pineiro in the store, police said, until officers broke up the fight.

Once at police headquarers, Pineiro said he had gotten into a fight with multiple people, one of whom hit Pineiro with a bottle, according to the police report.
The 26-year-old victim, also brought into police headquarters on Sunday, told officers that Pineiro had been the one who had pulled out a knife and cut him on his left cheek, police said. The victim received seven sutures to the wound at the Hoboken University Medical Center, police said.
Pineiro was charged with aggravated assault and posession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, police said.
