Major Bridge Out Of Hoboken Closes For A Week: Here's Why
One lane of a bridge on the Hoboken/Weehawken border will close through early next week. Here's why.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Amid construction projects at both ends of Hoboken — part of a federal project to protect town from flooding during storm surges — residents learned that another project will close a lane of traffic near the city's northern border.
Hudson County Executive Craig Guy announced that starting this past Wednesday, crews would repair the Park Avenue Bridge, which leads from Hoboken to Weehawken and the Lincoln Tunnel area.
"One lane of traffic will remain open on the bridge during construction, with opposite traffic detoured between 14th Street and 19th Street via Willow Avenue," Guy's office noted.

The repairs are expected to be finished by this coming Tuesday.
Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, who represents the northeast part of town, added, "I know… it feels like death by a thousand paper cuts. Get out the bandaids."
She explained, "Hudson County needs to make urgent repairs to the bridge’s concrete substructure and deck. The thought was to get this done now – during lighter August traffic – rather than in September."
She said the county’s original plan, which would have taken place during the morning and evening commutes.
"Working together, we were able to adjust the schedule to lessen the burden on Hoboken residents by reducing the disruption during peak commuting periods. The final schedule still affects the evening rush, but it avoids the double hit," she noted.
She said that Weehawken officials have a firm stance against overnight work.
"The good news is that he confirmed both Weehawken and Hudson County will be providing additional traffic resources to help manage the expected backups at the 19th Street/Tiger Mart intersection," she noted.
To add to your commuting concerns, the Hoboken PATH station will close over Labor Day weekend for repairs. Read more about that here.
