Some Hoboken Schools Locked Down, Street Closed, Police Say

Some Hoboken schools are locked down, police said Monday afternoon.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Some Hoboken schools were locked down on Monday afternoon and a block of the main street was closed due to police activity, authorities said around 3:30 p.m.

UPDATE: The street has reopened as of 4:30 p.m.

Washington Street was closed between Seventh and Eighth Street, except for bus traffic, police said.

Authorities clarified just before 4 p.m. that they were responding "to investigate a non-credible threat."

"As a precaution, schools in the area are on lockdown or sheltering in place," police said in a statement. "Parents and residents are asked to avoid the area until notified via another Nixle [emergency message]."

Two reports on social media said police were seen entering a non-public school with guns visible.

"Be advised: HPD is responding to the area of Seventh and Washington St.," police posted on social media just after 3:30 p.m. "Washington is closed between 7th and 8th to all vehicles other than buses. Please avoid the area."
