Mayor Zimmer Receives 'Monday Make Over'

Mayor Dawn Zimmer sat down and had her hair and make up done on Monday night, as part of a new initiative.

Surrounded by stylists, hair dressers and a film crew, Mayor Dawn Zimmer turned around in a barber chair at on Monday night to check out her new hairdo and make up.

Her hair was up. Her make up done. Satisfied with the result, Zimmer thanked make up stylist Brittney Cowan for the new look.

But, she laughed, "I don't know how to do that myself."

"It's easy," Cowan promised.

Zimmer is partaking in a new initiative by the Hoboken Host Committee, called "Monday Make Overs." The goal of the make over videos—which will be hosted on local blog Hoboken Girl—is to promote Hoboken businesses and convince visitors to shop locally.

Promoting local shops, Zimmer said as hair dresser Meg Henderson stuck another bobby pin in her hair, "is why I'm here."

The Monday Make over series—which will last for a total of eight weeks—is the idea of Scott Katz, the chairman of the Hoboken Host Committee. The Host Committee, Katz said, is working to promote Hoboken for the 2014 Superbowl, which will be held in New Jersey.

"We need everyone to work together," Katz, 37, said, "and that's not always easy to do in this town." Katz, a freelance television director, has lived in Hoboken for the past 11 years.

The mayor will receive make overs for the first three weeks of the eight-week series. Councilwoman Jennifer Giattino will also participate.

After hair and make at Caru, Zimmer went on to clothing store Dear Hanna to try out some outfits.
