GPS Units Stolen in Rash of Car Break-Ins

At least $800 worth of Global Positioning Systems stolen from cars in Hoboken.

Several cars were broken into in Hoboken over the last few days, with burglars stealing at least $800 worth of GPS units, authorities said.

The units were stolen from locked cars, according to police reports.

  • On Friday night around 7 p.m., a 53-year-old Hoboken man found out that his GPS, worth $250, was stolen from his car. The car, a silver 2009 Honda Odyssey, was parked on the fifth floor of the Sky Club's private garage. The car's windshield was damaged by the actor, who took the GPS from the car. The actor also took the scanner with which the car has access to the garage from the car.
  • Earlier in the week, between Wednesday and Thursday night, an unknown actor broke into a black Volvo that was parked in a parking garage at 77 Park Ave. The car belonged to a 25-year-old Hoboken man and the GPS was worth about $300.
  • During roughly that same time—between Wednesday 4 p.m. and Thursday 7 a.m.—a GPS was stolen from a car at the Sky Club. A 31-year-old Hobokenite owned the car and the GPS was valued at $150.
  • Between Thursday night 7:30 p.m. and Friday morning around 8 o'clock, a GPS was stolen from a car that belonged to a 35-year-old Hoboken woman. The soft top of the convertible was vandalized and the GPS was taken from the 1999 Mazda Miata Convertible. The car was parked at 1000 Sinatra Dr. The woman noticed the car was vandalized when she went to retrive it around 7 a.m. on Friday. The GPS was in the glove compartment and the soft top of the car will cost about $3,000 to fix, she told police.

No arrests were made in these cases, and it's unclear how many actors were involved.
