NJ Actor Bobby Cannavale Skipped Golden Globes To Look For Lizard, Partner Reveals
NJ actor Bobby Cannavale skipped partner Rose Byrne's Golden Globe win on Sunday to head to a local reptile expo. Here's why.
NORTH JERSEY — Union City native and "Only Murders in the Building" actor Bobby Cannavale wasn't at the Golden Globes on Sunday with his partner, actress Rose Byrne — because he was hunting for a lizard in New Jersey.
Byrne was at the Globes to accept her award for best performance by a female actor in a musical or comedy film for "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You."
She had revealed on Jimmy Fallon's late night talk show Thursday that she would be bringing her brother George to the Globes, because Cannavale had made a promise to their two boys.

“You know what, so Bobby, he can’t come, which is such a bummer,” Byrne said on Thursday. “He’s going to a reptile expo in New Jersey.”
"What are you talking about?" Fallon asked, as the crowd laughed.

"Deep Jersey," she said. "We're getting a bearded dragon."
Bearded dragons, which are Australian lizards, are "Among the most popular pet reptiles [and] tend to be gentle, inquisitive, and active during the day," says National Geographic.
"We think they're gorgeous," Byrne told Fallon. "They like crickets. I had a friend who had one and she said crickets do escape sometimes...this expo is like where everyone goes, and it's the place to go, and it's the same day, and, to miss it would be such a parent fail. So we're doing it, and I'm on board with the dragon."
Byrne earned more laughs on Sunday when she won the award and explained her predicament during a minute-and-40-second acceptance speech.
"My brother's my date," she said. "Thanks, George...and I want to thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale, who couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey, so."
Pausing for laughter, she added, "So, thank you. Thank you, baby."
Repticon was scheduled for Friday through Sunday in Edison, according to its website.
For anyone interested in a cold-blooded pet, the expo will be in Orlando this coming weekend.
