Some NJ Transit Trains Suspended, Delayed Due To Wire Issues, Agency Says Monday

NORTH JERSEY — NJ Transit said Monday morning that two of its major rail lines were suspended going in and out of New York City, and others are subject to up to 60-minute delays.

The problems are due to Amtrak overhead wire issues near Newark Penn Station, they said.

"North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor rail service is suspended in both directions and Raritan Valley Line service into and out of Penn Station New York is subject to up to 60-minute delays due to Amtrak overhead wire issues near Newark Penn Station," the agency announced around 9:30 a.m. "Eastbound Midtown Direct service is being diverted to Hoboken."

Rail tickets are being cross honored by PATH at Newark, Hoboken, and 33rd Street Station, as well as by private carrier buses, they say.

The agency has been plagued by delays and suspensions this year, largely due to Amtrak wiring issues, they have said. The last major delays were over the summer.

In September, a spokesperson for the agency said many of the issues had to do with Amtrak track maintenance and issues. Amtrak said in late June that it's working with NJ Transit to offer more reliable service.

Work on the Gateway Tunnel, a new rail tunnel from New Jersey to New York City, is continuing in order to alleviate some of the bottlenecks. READ MORE: Work Continues On Gateway Tunnel From NJ To NYC
