On The Agenda: Emergency Appropriations

For the third time, the city council will talk about emergency appropriations on Wednesday night.

Third time's a charm?

Mayor Dawn Zimmer—for the third time—is hoping that the city council minority will be persuaded to

Without the appropriations, Zimmer said, the city won't be able to pay its firefighters passed the month of March, won't be able to take action on the burnt down building on First and Jackson Streets and won't be able to fund many of its 29 current ongoing law suits, including litigation about the uptown Monarch development.

The roughly $750,000 in appropriations need six votes to pass, which means that one member of the minority will have to approve it,

Second Ward Councilwoman Beth Mason said in a phone interview on Wednesday that she would approve independent items, but didn't want to approve the appropriations as a whole.

Third Ward Councilman Michael Russo on Tuesday said he wasn't sure yet how to vote.

Zimmer said that if the funds aren't passed on Wednesday night, it'll jeopardize the city's finances and ability to pay employees and contractors.

Check back later on Hoboken Patch to see the outcome of the vote at the City Council.
