PATH Train Fares To Increase Starting This Weekend
Fares for the PATH train, which has 13 stops in New Jersey and NYC, will soon increase, but you can get a monthly pass now to save.

NORTH JERSEY, NJ — The cost of riding on the PATH train — which has six stops in Manhattan and seven in New Jersey — will rise this weekend for the first time in a decade.
The $2.75 on-way fare will rise to $3 starting Sunday. The cost of monthly passes will also rise, so passengers who want the current rate can buy a monthly pass in advance. (See the amounts of the increases on the graphic below.)
When asked the reason for the increase, Port Authority spokesperson Seth Stein said, "PATH fares are pegged to inflation and are adjusted accordingly. Your fares help support PATH and keep our region moving."

The fare hikes, as well as some toll hikes, were approved as part of the Port Authority's budget last month.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey runs the PATH line, which stands for Port Authority Trans Hudson. The line was chartered as the Hudson & Manhattan Railway in 1902, then renamed when the Port Authority took it over in 1962.

The agency is also introducing, for the first time, a 50 percent fare for eligible disabled passengers to match the senior discount. Information on the discount is here.
In New York, the PATH has stops at the World Trade Center, as well as Christopher Street, 9th, 14th, 21st, and 33rd streets. In New Jersey, it stops in Hoboken, Newport (Jersey City), Exchange Place (Jersey City), Grove Street (Jersey City), Journal Square (Jersey City), Harrison, and Newark.
One Station To Close
The new rate comes three weeks before the agency plans to close the Hoboken station for a month for repairs. The repairs are part of a $430 upgrade of the line and stations. Alternate forms of transportation, including ferries, buses, and NJ Transit trains, are encouraged. Read more about the closure here.
