PATH Train Station In Hudson County Closes Late Thursday: What To Know
The PATH station closure in Hoboken may tie up traffic, but alternatives are offered like reduced-fare ferries and Jersey City shuttles.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — At one minute before midnight on Thursday, the PATH train station in Hoboken will close for Labor Day weekend so ongoing track issues can be fixed.
The rest of the Hoboken train station will remain open. The underground PATH platform is run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, while the above-ground trains, buses, and light rail at the station are run by NJ Transit.
The work is necessary because after the Port Authority closed the station for 25 days early this year, they later realized that more work needed to be done.

Back on July 12, a train derailed with no injuries. The incident caused the line to be suspended for all of that Saturday. PA officials began running the trains more slowly and said repairs would be done over Labor Day weekend.
The PATH part of the station will close until the day after Labor Day, Sept. 2, at 5 a.m. "for urgent repairs to the track and interlocking system," the PA said.

Traffic Delays And Reduced Fares
The city of Hoboken noted that users should plan for extra travel time and look at the alternatives being offered.
The city said, "Options include reduced fare ferries, cross honoring on the Light Rail and certain NJ Transit trains, and free shuttle bus service between Hoboken and Newport and Exchange Place. The buses will operate from Hudson Place between Hudson Street and River Street. The Hop and the taxi stand will relocate to the east side of River Street between Hudson Place and Newark Street.
"During the closure, residents are encouraged to leave extra travel time, explore travel alternatives, and prepare for increased traffic around the Hoboken Terminal, due to additional buses."
