HOBOKEN, NJ - A pedestrian was killed Tuesday night after being hit by an NJ Transit train near Hoboken, authorities said.

At around 9 p.m., the Main Line train No. 1129, which departed Hoboken at 8:46 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Suffern at 10:01 p.m., struck and fatally injured a male pedestrian at the east end of the Bergen Tunnel on the Jersey City-Hoboken border, NJ Transit Spokesman Jim Smith told Patch.

No injuries were reported to the 41 customers or crew on board at the time, Smith said.

Rail service in and out of Hoboken was temporarily suspended but has since resumed. New Jersey Transit police are leading the investigation.

The identity of the pedestrian was not immediately made public.
