Police: Jersey City Man Slashed with Credit Card in Downtown Hoboken

Hoboken police arrested a 49-year-old Jersey City man.

A 49-year-old Jersey City man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on Tuesday night after allegedly slashing a man in downtown Hoboken, according to police reports.

Jimmy Fykes allegedly slid the throat of a 31-year-old Jersey City man with a weapon made of a credit card, police said.

When police arrived at First and Sinatra Drive, they found the 31-year-old sitting on the ground, holding a bandana in place against his throat, according to the reports. He had blood on his hands, chest and legs, police said.

The man then told police he had been cut and that the alleged assaulter had used a weapon made out of a credit card. The victim told police that he knew who assaulted him and that the alleged slasher may still be in the area, according to reports.

While the victim was treated by the Hoboken Ambulance Volunteer Corps , police looked for the alleged actor. The victim received eight stitches on his chin, police said.

Two eye witnesses helped the officers track down Fykes. One eye witness, police said, told officers that he saw the two men argue. A moment later, the witness saw one man on the ground, bleeding, according to reports.

Police sent out an alert for (what they later suspected was) Fykes, according to reports.

After searching—and finding a man who fit the description but wasn't the alleged assaulter—police found Fykes, with blood on his hands, according to reports. Fykes was identified as the alleged assaulter and taken to police headquarters. Fykes was also charged with posession of drug paraphernalia—he had a crack pipe with him—as well as illegal possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for illegal use, police said.

Fykes also had an outstanding warrant from the Hudson County Sherrif's office.
