UPDATE—Water Restored in Housing Authority Building

25 cases of water were delivered to the building.

UPDATED—After about six hours of service disruption, water at 221 Jackson St. was restored around 8 p.m. on Thursday night, according to city spokesman Juan Melli.

Disruption to a water service line left the residents of 221 Jackson St. without water on Thursday afternoon, according to City Spokesman Juan Melli.

A leak to a water line was noticed on Thursday morning, Melli said, after which United Water shut off the line. After the pressure in the fire hydrants was low—because of that leak—the water was turned off.

United Water was on the scene and estimated that the repair time would be about 8 hours, Melli said. Around 4:30 p.m., united water personnel had dug a hole and reached the pipe that needed fixing, Melli said. Melli predicted the work would be done by—approximately—6:30 p.m.

Because of the sweltering heat on Thursday afternoon—with temperatures up to 95º—25 cases of water were delivered to the building by the Office of Emergency Management and the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Electricity was working in the building. A machine for residents to replenish water—a so-called water buffalo—was dispatched to the scene, Melli said.
