Soon You'll Be Able To See Out Of Our Trains, NJ Transit Announces: See Photos

NJ Transit shared its first photos of the new, transparent windows, after acknowledging why it's hard to see out of the old ones.

NORTH JERSEY, NJ — During long rides on NJ Transit, commuters have been frustrated by windows that appear dirty and filmy, letting only a little light in.

But the windows don't need washing, the agency revealed recently — they need replacing.

"One issue that has affected some of our trains is the appearance of cloudy or foggy windows, which can reduce visibility and impact your ride," they said in a statement. "In many cases, this is due to the long-term effects of UV light exposure and environmental conditions on single-pane polycarbonate glazed windows, which are the types of windows used on NJ TRANSIT trains and are standard in the transit industry."

The polycarbonate windows are durable, but they're subject to different types of wear than glass is, the agency said, noting that they plan to replace 400 windows.

On Tuesday, the agency posted first photos on social media of their new windows being installed.

"We’re excited to announce the beginning of the installation of brand-new windows on NJ TRANSIT multilevel train cars!" they said. "Say goodbye to cloudy views and hello to crystal-clear sights on every ride! Keep an eye out (literally ) as the new windows roll out across the fleet!"

Some commuters were happy, others cheeky.

"Be able to see those government drones more clearly now," wrote one person, in response.

"I will take cloudy windows over delays any day," said another.

The agency said the new windows will be durable but less prone to cloudiness.
