Steady Demolition Ongoing, Washington St. Open This Weekend

It's been about a week and a half since a devastating fire destroyed 300 Washington St.

The demolition of 300 Washington St., the five-story building that was heavily is ongoing and Washington St. is still closed between Second and Fourth Streets, re-routing traffic and NJ Transit buses.

This weekend, however, Washington Street will be temporarily re-opened for cars and buses, according to city spokesman Juan Melli. With the large amount of visitors expected for Saturday's  the construction crane will be placed somewhere else for the day. 

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The top of the building was most heavily damaged, by the city's engineers. 

It's unclear how much longer the construction will go on and how long Washington Street will be blocked off. After the first phase of the demolition has been completed, a new report will be completed to decide what will happen to the lower floors of the building.
