Teen Charged In Fatal Shooting Of 17-Year-Old In Hudson County

A teen has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old in Hudson County, and the victim's sister has started a GoFundMe.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A 17-year-old from Jersey City has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of another 17-year-old in Bayonne on Sunday.

Prosecutors would not release the name of the teen who was charged, but the victim has been identified as John Dominguez, 17, of Bayonne.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said that shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Bayonne Police Department and the Bayonne Fire Department were notified of an unresponsive male inside an apartment at 124 West Third St.

Dominguez was taken by ambulance to Bayonne Medical Center. He was pronounced dead just after 3 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause to be a gunshot wound to the torso, and the manner to be homicide, prosecutors said on Thursday.

The Jersey City teen has been charged with manslaughter, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors said, "Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time."

A person identifying herself as the victim's brother started a fundraiser, saying, "My brother John Dominguez, lovingly known to those around him as Johnny, suddenly passed away on July 21st, 2024. This tragedy happened only one month shy of his 18th birthday. We are all devastated by this unexpected loss, and we know the community is as well.

"Johnny was well known and greatly loved by everyone who knew him. Our family would like to honor him with a funeral service and a traditional burial."
