You can catch Slowdance on Monday night at 9 p.m.

Even though Quay Quinn-Settel grew up surrounded by music with two musician parents, she never thought she'd be in a professional band.
That is, until her friend Luke Fox told her and the other (future) bandmates, "hey let's start a band," Quinn-Settel said in a phone interview on Monday.
Now, about a year-and-a-half later, Slowdance is quickly gaining fame in New York City and around the country. In the spring the band is expected to perform at South by Southwest, Quinn-Settel, the band's singer, said. The indie quintet is also working on releasing its first full-length album next year.

"It started off as a joke for me, but it turned serious," Quinn-Settel, 27, said.
She described Slowdance's music as pop, inspired by French songstresses.
While the band members have day jobs, it's their ultimate goal to make Slowdance their full time jobs, Quinn-Settel said. When asked if it's a lot of work to combine the touring and performing with daily life, she said the love of the music takes over.
"Because it is something I really want, it doesn’t feel like work," she said. "Everything we do together is so gratifying that we look forward to it."
