City to Begin Demolition at First and Jackson
A fire destroyed the building at the corner of First and Jackson on Dec. 17, 2011.

Remediation and demolition is scheduled to start on Friday at First and Jackson Streets, the site of a major fire last December.
The fire,, destroyed the second story of the building, which consisted mostly of wood. The ground floor—consistent of mostly brick—is still intact and can be salvaged. Engineers have advised a partial demolition of the building.

The City ordered the property owner to conduct the required demolition work, but the owner didn't complete the work before the deadline.
", conduct the demolition, and place a lien against the property for the cost of all work," the city announced in a press release on Thursday. "No Parking" signs were placed in the area to create a pedestrian path and a place to keep the demolition equipment.

While the property owner has appealed the city—the city and the owner were in court this week—a judge ruled on Thursday that the city is allowed to take action and do the work.
