29-Year-Old Dies After Crashing Into Trees On Garden State Parkway: NJ State Police

The crash occurred early Wednesday morning when the vehicle lost control and veered off the road, NJ State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

HAZLET, NJ — A 29-year-old man was killed after his car veered off the road and crashed into trees along the Garden State Parkway in Hazlet on Wednesday, NJ State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron told Patch.

Troopers responded to the motor vehicle crash around 5 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway North at milepost 117.8 in Hazlet Wednesday morning, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, Lebron said a Kia Forte was traveling north on the parkway when the vehicle lost directional control, veered off the road to the left, and struck multiple trees.

As a result of the crash, the driver, later identified as Jonathan Harnish, of Toms River, was killed, Lebron said.

The crash remains under investigation, police said. No additional information was available as of Thursday afternoon.
