Chabad Jewish Center Proposal Sets Return To Holmdel Planning Board
Plans for the proposed center are set to return to the board in September, seeking a preliminary and final major site plan approval.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The plans for a proposed Chabad Jewish Center on Holmdel Road are set to return to the Holmdel Planning Board in September.
The applicant (Chabad Jewish Center of BCC, Inc.) is set to go before the board at their Sept. 2 meeting at 7 p.m., according to the meeting agenda.
The applicant for the center is seeking preliminary and final major site plan approval to build a 15,053 square foot house of worship building, along with a 5,129 square foot parsonage/Rabbi’s residence, plus related site plan improvements on 816 Holmdel Road.

The proposal has made multiple appearances before the planning board, dating back to December 2024.
For the board’s Aug. 5 meeting, the proposal was set to go before the board again, but was instead carried out until the Sept. 2 meeting, along with a proposal to install a new 52 square foot double-sided freestanding sign along the frontage of 2080 Rt. 35 (which is set to be carried out to Sept. 16).

In July, a revised construction proposal for the center went before the board, according to a report from the Two River Times.
During that meeting, the report said board members heard nearly three hours of testimony from representatives of the center on the project, including engineer Andrew Comi, traffic engineer John Ray, project architect Melissa Rubb and attorney Jennifer Krimko.
When the project came before the board in December 2024, many residents voiced concerns about water and sewer management at the site, tax exemptions, and how many people would be expected at the center throughout the week.
By opening the proposed center, Rabbi Shmaya Galperin (who leads the Chabad Jewish Center of Holmdel) told officials that the center will be able to consolidate its programs — which are currently offered across various Holmdel venues — and bring them all to one location.
Plans for the proposed center will go before the Holmdel Planning Board at their Sept. 2 meeting, which is set to take place in the meeting room at Town Hall at 7 p.m.
