HOLMDEL, NJ — Former Holmdel Mayor Greg Buontempo and former Deputy Mayor Prakash Santhana have officially announced their candidacy for the Republican Primary in June.

During their respective terms, both Buontempo and Santhana served on the Township Committee, and their time in office was marked by “a flat municipal budget and no tax increase at the municipal level,” according to their campaign.

As Mayor, the campaign said Buontempo provided critical leadership and guidance during the COVID-19 Pandemic and shutdowns, and that his leadership and guidance led to the Township Library at Bell Works at no cost to taxpayers.

In addition, the campaign said his leadership provided for improved fire and first aid service in Holmdel, such as the building of a new firehouse.

“It is an honor to serve the residents of Holmdel,” Buontempo said. “With taxes about to skyrocket due to the lack of leadership from the current TC [Township Committee], I believe that Mr. Santhana and I can provide sound leadership that will benefit the residents of Holmdel. We have a proven record of success and fiscal responsibility in Holmdel, as witnessed by our prior terms on the TC.”

During Santhana’s term on the Township Committee and time as Deputy Mayor, the campaign said his time in office was marked by improved fire safety, fiscal responsibility and no tax increases at the municipal level.

An example of Santhana’s fiscal responsibility was the conversion of existing municipal debt to record-low interest rates, the campaign said, which has and continues to save taxpayers' money.

The primary election will take place on June 10, 2025.
