Hazlet First Aid & Rescue Squad Struggles With Staffing Shortage

Hazlet First Aid & Rescue Squad is struggling to keep up with the volume of calls and looking for more volunteers to join.

HAZLET, NJ — The Hazlet First Aid & Rescue Squad is facing a staffing shortage with the recent increase in the volume of emergency calls.

Just in the first seven days of the year, Hazlet First Aid & Rescue Squad received 64 calls for emergency medical service. On average, they would typically see about 30 calls during the same time period.

"We had to rely on our mutual aid squads, Keyport First Aid Squad Inc. and Union Beach EMS to answer 5 of those calls because of a lack of volunteers," the squad said in a statement.
