HOLMDEL, NJ — A Holmdel man is facing multiple charges after police said he tried to remove a pride flag from a donut shop in Matawan.
At 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Matawan Police responded to Main Street Donuts on 141 Main Street for a report of a person attempting to remove a pride flag from the business.
The shop’s owner told police a white man with a t-shirt tied around his head as a mask attempted to remove a pride flag from the front of the business, damaging the metal bracket.

The man — later identified as Maciej Wojciak, 61, of Holmdel — was involved in a struggle with the owner who tried to stop him from damaging the flag, police said.
Wojciak fled before officers arrived at the scene, but police said they managed to obtain a photo of the vehicle’s license plate.

While officers were canvassing the area for Wojciak, police said he returned to the business, made Nazi salute gestures, and simulated sexual acts in the roadway.
Wojciak also made threats to burn down the donut shop before fleeing the scene once again, police said.
A short while later, police said Wojciak’s vehicle was found and stopped in the area of 41 Main Street, and Wojciak was taken into custody.
He was charged with bias intimidation, terroristic threats, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, police said.
Wojciak was then brought to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution following his processing at Matawan Police Headquarters.
Anyone with information on the incident is being urged to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Adam Hess at 800-533-7443 or Matawan Police Department Detective Mason Sheehan at 732-290-2038.
