Ackerson was sworn in as chief following an announcement that former Holmdel Police Chief Frank Allocco was retiring after 39 years of service to the local community.

“To our Holmdel community – we are committed to providing the highest level of professionalism and police service,” Ackerson said. “My vision for the department is clear: to communicate openly and effectively, to be responsive to your needs and to address your concerns.”

A 27-year veteran of the Holmdel Township Police Department, and a lifelong Holmdel resident, Ackerson is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and an Accredited Command Executive from the NJ Association of Chiefs of Police.

In addition to these accomplishments, Ackerson also holds a Master's Degree from Seton Hall University and a Bachelor's Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

In Holmdel, his roots in the township date back to the 1800s, officials said, as over the years, many of his family members have played key roles in the development and progress that make Holmdel the community it is today.

During his first public address as Chief of Police, Ackerson thanked the township for its vote of confidence in selecting him as the new chief and acknowledged the men and women of the department, pledging to lead them into the future while working alongside them.

“Congratulations, Chief Ackerson,” the Holmdel Township Police Department said in an online post. “We wish you well and are honored to work with you to keep Holmdel a safe and wonderful community.”
