Pedestrian Dies Of Injuries After Being Hit On Route 36 In Hazlet

HAZLET, NJ — A woman died of her injuries on Sunday after she was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 36, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said Tuesday.

The woman, who was a pedestrian, was hit at the intersection of Route 36 and Union Avenue just before 8 p.m. by a male driver who was headed south in the right lane of Route 36, Santiago said.

She was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m., prosecutors said.

The driver remained at the scene of the crash, Santiago said. No charges or summonses have been issued as of Tuesday morning.

The prosecutor's office did not release the names, ages, or hometowns of the woman or the driver.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and the Hazlet Township Police Department are investigating the incident.
